Welcome to Ahmadi Answers

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is the only Islamic organization to believe that the long-awaited Messiah has come in the person of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad(as) (1835-1908) of Qadian. Ahmad(as) claimed to be the metaphorical second coming of Jesus(as) of Nazareth and the divine guide, whose advent was foretold by the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad(saw). We believe that according to the Qur’an and the sayings of the Prophet Muhammad(saw) it is clear that the latter day messiah would be an imam from amongst the Muslims. Ahmadiyya Muslim Community believes that God sent Ahmad(as), like Jesus(as), to end religious wars, condemn bloodshed and re-institute morality, justice and peace. Ahmad(as)’s advent has brought about an unprecedented era of Islamic revival. He divested Islam of fanatical beliefs and practices by vigorously championing Islam’s true and essential teachings.

The One To Revive Islam

The Qur’an makes a beautiful prophecy in regards to a reformer under Islam. Allah has stated:

He it is Who has raised among the Unlettered people a Messenger from among themselves who recites unto them His signs, and purifies them, and teaches them the Book and wisdom, although they had been, before, in manifest misguidance. And among others from among them who have not yet joined them. He is the Mighty, the Wise. That is Allah’s grace; He bestows it on whom He pleases; and Allah is the Master of immense grace.”(Chapter 62 Verses 4-5)

This is a beautiful prophecy in regards to a prophet coming from our ummah. Allah has clearly stated that “And among others from among them who have not yet joined them” Allah shows us that in the end times people who see the Holy Prophet(saw) who are not with him yet. Now one cannot take this literally because the Holy Prophet Muhammad(saw) himself did the commentary of these ayahs when they were revealed upon him. Here is the Bukhari Hadith which outlines what took place:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

While we were sitting with the Prophet (ﷺ) Surat Al-Jumu’a was revealed to him, and when the Verse, “And He (Allah) has sent him (Muhammad) also to other (Muslims)…..’ (62.3) was recited by the Prophet, I said, “Who are they, O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)?” The Prophet (ﷺ) did not reply till I repeated my question thrice. At that time, Salman Al-Farisi was with us. So Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) put his hand on Salman, saying, “If Faith were at (the place of) Ath-Thuraiya (pleiades, the highest star), even then some man from these people (i.e. Salman’s folk) would attain it.”(Sahih Bukhari, Volume 6, Book 60, Hadith #420)

The Holy Prophet Muhammad(Saw) has himself told us that this man would be among the Persian lineage and Mirza Ghulam Ahmad(as) was. Now the main idea of this sign is it also states the time of the Messiah and clearly tells us that he would appear when faith would be at the highest star meaning it would be corrupt and people would misinterpret the teachings of Islam and what the Qur’an actually states.

This hadith makes it clear that nothing of Islam would be left except its name and the scholars would be the worst of creatures. In todays age we see the condition of the scholars and what kind of things they do in the name of Islam. It is indeed unbearable to see what they blame our Master Muhammad(saw) for. Allah made it clear that this person would be the second coming of Muhammad(saw) in a spiritual sense which further proves the truthfulness of Ahmad(as) as he was indeed a reflection of Muhammad(saw).

Ahmad(as) has stated:

“People who think in physical terms, sometimes link the Promised One to the progeny of Hasan (ra), sometimes to Husain (ra), and sometimes to ‘Abbas (ra). But what the Holy Prophet (sa) truly meant was that the Promised One would be his heir, just like a son, i.e., he would inherit his name, his character, his knowledge, his spirituality, and would reflect his very image. He will acquire nothing on his own but will acquire everything from the Holy Prophet (sa), and will so lose himself in him as to reflect his very image”(A Misconception Removed Page 15)

No Prophet Between Me And Him

Narrated Abu Hurayrah: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: There is no prophet between me and him, that is, Jesus (as). He will descend.(Sunan Abi Dawud 4324)

This hadith also makes it clear that the latter day Messiah(as) would indeed be a prophet of Allah and that no prophet would come after The Holy Prophet Muhammad(saw) until his arrival. He would be the prophet after the Holy Prophet(saw) but would be under him and would not bring a new shariah. This is another hadith which shows the coming of a prophet and shows us that the messiah would indeed be a prophet of Allah.

Latter Day Messiah Called A Prophet Four Times

The Holy Prophet Muhammad(Saw) made it clear that the latter day messiah would be a prophet. It is quite astonishing that because Ahmadis believe he would be a prophet as the Prophet Muhammad(saw) said, we are called kaffir while all Muslims themselves await a prophet.

There was once water there. Jesus and his companions would then be besieged here (at Tur, and they would be so much hard pressed) that the head of the ox would be dearer to them than one hundred dinars and Allah’s Apostle, Jesus, and his companions would supplicate Allah, Who would send to them insects (which would attack their necks) and in the morning they would perish like one single person. Allah’s Apostle, Jesus, and his companions would then come down to the earth and they would not find in the earth as much space as a single span which is not filled with their putrefaction and stench. Allah’s Apostle, Jesus, and his companions would then again beseech Allah, Who would send birds whose necks would be like those of Bactrian camels and they would carry them and throw them where God would will. Then Allah would send rain which no house of clay or (the tent of) camels’ hairs would keep out and it would wash away the earth until it could appear to be a mirror. Then the earth would be told to bring forth its fruit and restore its blessing and, as a result thereof, there would grow (such a big) pomegranate that a group of persons would be able to eat that, and seek shelter under its skin and milch cow would give so much milk that a whole party would be able to drink it. And the milch camel would give such (a large quantity of) milk that the whole tribe would be able to drink out of that and the milch sheep would give so much milk that the whole family would be able to drink out of that and at that time Allah would send a pleasant wind which would soothe (people) even under their armpits, and would take the life of every Muslim and only the wicked would survive who would commit adultery like asses and the Last Hour would come to them.(Sahih Muslim, 2937a)

Here The Holy Prophet Muhammad(Saw) has called the Latter day Messiah who is also given the title of Isa Ibn Maryam a Prophet of Allah four times. This is all in one single hadith. How can a sincere Muslim reject the Prophet Muhammad(Saw) even after he repeated himself three times? If one does it would truly be out of ignorance and arrogance. It is clear that Ahmad(as) is indeed this Messiah, so of course he would have the title of a prophet.

Prophet Can Be Raised

Abu Bakr (ra) is the most superior from among the Ummah, except that a prophet is raised.”(Kanzul Ummal)

(There is also another version of this Hadith which uses best among the people

Both of these Ahadith leave no doubt that according to the Prophet Muhammad(Saw) the coming of a prophet was possible. The Holy Prophet(saw) has said “most superior from among the ummah” meaning that Abu Bakr(ra) is the most superior in the ummah “except that a prophet is raised” which shows us that the prophet who would be raised would also only be from the ummah rather than a prophet from outside of it. This also is in line with the Ahmadi belief on prophethood. If prophethood was indeed closed, the Prophet Muhammad(saw) could have stopped at ummah or people and would not have stated the next portion.

If Ibrahim Remained Alive He Would Be A Prophet

It was narrated that Ibn ‘Abbas said:

“Then Ibrahim the son of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) died, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) prayed and said: ‘He has a wet-nurse in Paradise, and if he had lived he would have been a Siddiq and a Prophet. If he had lived his maternal uncles, the Egyptians, would have been set free and no Egyptian would ever have been enslaved.’”(Ibn Maja Volume 1, Book 6, Hadith #1511)

This is also another clear hadith which shows us that prophethood is indeed open and that if the son of the prophet had lived he would have been a truthful prophet.

Some non Ahmadis say that the reason Allah caused Ibrahim(as) to die was because Holy Prophet(saw) was the last prophet. What a ridiculous argument. How can a sincere Muslim really believe that Allah forgot that the Prophet(saw) was the last prophet and accidentally sent a innocent son but caused him to die because he would become a prophet? How can anyone in fact accept such ideology? The Holy Prophet(saw) could have said that even if Ibrahim lived he would not be a prophet because I am the seal of all the prophets but never did he say this. This also shows us that the interpretation of Khataman Nabiyyin by the Prophet Muhammad(saw) was the same interpretation Ahmadi Muslims do in comparison to the meaning the non Ahmadis take as the Prophet himself said that if Ibrahim lived he would have been a prophet.

Some people have also accused this narration but in Shibab Alal Baidawi it is written that “There is no doubt in the authenticity of this Hadith, because it has been related by Ibn Maja and others such as Hafiz Ibni Hajar”(Shihbab Alal-Baidawi, Volume 7 page 175)

Now Ibn Hajar Asqalani (ra) is one of the greatest hadith scholars to the non Ahmadis. If he has said it is sahih than how can you with no proof reject such a hadith?

Mullah Ali Qari, another famous muhaddith has stated “There are some who claim that this hadith is maudu or weak. However, this hadith is not weak, because it is narrated from three different chains, each of which strengthen each other”(Maudu-at-e-Kabir, page 58)

He further proving the prophethood views of Ahmadi Muslims states:

“This Hadith does not contradict the word of Allah on khatamun nabiyyin. For the meaning of khatamun nabiyyin is that no prophet can come after the Holy Prophet(saw) who abrogates the law of the Holy Prophet(saw) and is from outside his ummah”(Maudu-at-e-Kabir page 59)

Further Ibn Hajar Asqalani(ra) states:

Hadrat Imam Suyuti (rh) has mentioned that the narration as it has reached us through Hadrat Anas is authentic, that someone inquired of him that did the Holy Prophet (sa) make the statement ‘Had Ibrahim (as) remained alive, he would have been a truthful prophet,’ in response to a question posed by someone? Hadrat Anas (ra) responded, I am unaware as to whether the Holy Prophet (sa) made this statement in response to a question, but may the mercy of Allah be upon Ibrahim, for if he had remained alive, he would have been a truthful prophet.”(Al Fatawa Al Hadithiyya page 150)

Indeed it is clear that this hadith is sahih and shows that a prophet can indeed come as the Prophet himself prophesied in countless of ahadith.

Caliphate On The Precept of Prophethood

“Prophethood would remain among you so long as Allah wills. Then Allah the Exalted would raise it up. Then Caliphate on the precepts of Prophethood would be established and remain among you for as long as Allah wills. Then Allah the Exalted would raise it up. Then despotic rule would remain among you for as long as Allah wills. Then Allah the Exalted would raise it up. Then a tyrranous rule would remain among you for as long as Allah wills. Then Allah the Exalted would raise it up. Then Caliphate on the precepts of Prophethood would be established again.
Then, the Holy Prophet (sa) remained silent.”(Mishkat)

This hadith is extremely beautiful. The Holy Prophet Muhammad(saw) has firstly prophesied about caliphate after him and has stated that it would remain as long as Allah wills. After that Allah would raise it up and false and violent rulers would appear. After that Allah would exalt it back up and then it would be established again on the precepts of prophethood, meaning a prophet would come who would leave khilafat behind him. Now which prophet are all the Muslims waiting? The latter day messiah. So it is indeed clear that this refers to that same messiah who Muslims sadly await, although he has already come.

The interesting part is that where this hadith is recorded, it is stated:

“It is obvious that the second era of this caliphate refers to the time of the Messiah and Mahdi”

Some have said that this hadith does not refer to prophethood but anyone who has the ability to read Arabic can see that the Holy Prophet(saw) has said khilafatun ala minhajin-nabuwwah meaning caliphate on the precepts of prophethood. This clearly shows us that the caliphate would be established with the coming of the prophet and would begin after his death, just like it did after the death of our master Muhammad(saw).

This Qur’an has also given us glad tidings of a religious caliphate. Allah states:

Allah has promised to those among you who believe and do good works that He will surely make them Successors in the earth, as He made Successors from among those who were before them; and that He will surely establish for them their religion which He has chosen for them; and that He will surely give them in exchange security and peace after their fear: They will worship Me, and they will not associate anything with Me. Then whoso is ungrateful after that, they will be the rebellious.(Chapter 24 Verse 56)

Allah has promised us that those who do good works would be given successors. I now ask the non Ahmadi Muslims that if they are really doing good works than where is this caliphate? It is indeed clear that there is only one khalifa of Islam today, Hazrat Mirza Masoor Ahmad(atba)
