Welcome to Ahmadi Answers

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is the only Islamic organization to believe that the long-awaited Messiah has come in the person of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad(as) (1835-1908) of Qadian. Ahmad(as) claimed to be the metaphorical second coming of Jesus(as) of Nazareth and the divine guide, whose advent was foretold by the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad(saw). We believe that according to the Qur’an and the sayings of the Prophet Muhammad(saw) it is clear that the latter day messiah would be an imam from amongst the Muslims. Ahmadiyya Muslim Community believes that God sent Ahmad(as), like Jesus(as), to end religious wars, condemn bloodshed and re-institute morality, justice and peace. Ahmad(as)’s advent has brought about an unprecedented era of Islamic revival. He divested Islam of fanatical beliefs and practices by vigorously championing Islam’s true and essential teachings.

Milk of Makkah and Madinah Dried Up?

This allegation is against the Promised Son, Hazrat Mirza Bashiruddin Mahmood Ahmad(ra). The allegation comes from one of his writings where he states:

Qadian is the mother of all townships; thus, whoever does not maintain relations with Qadian will be cut off. You should fear that someone may be cut off from among you. How long will this fresh milk last? Even the milk of mothers dries up. Did or did not the milk dry up from breasts of Makkah and Madinah? (Haqiqatur Ru’ya, p. 46)

Firstly, wherever Allah sends the Light of Holy Prophet(Saw), in those areas people have said similar things to Hazrat mirza Bashiruddin Mahmood Ahmad(ra) and never has anyone criticized this. When we come to Mecca and Medina, we know that after Ibrahim(as) died, Mecca was full of idol worshippers to the point where there was an idol for each day. With the passage of time the place of a prophet does start to worsen and people start to go on the wrong path. If the Holy Prophet(saw) did not descend, Mecca would be in the worst situation right now. Would it be wrong to say that the milk dried up at that time ? Of course not. It is an obvious fact. It is obvious that after the passing of the Holy Prophet(saw), Mecca and Medina would worsen.

Now the milk of Qadian as well would become worst as well and this is what Hazrat Mirza Bashiruddin Mahmood(ra) is saying. He is saying that just like Mecca’s milk has dried up because of the separation of the time of the prophet, in the same way the milk of Qadian would also dry up. Hazrat Mirza Bashiruddin Mahmood Ahmad(ra) is showing us that the milk of Qadian will also dry up at one point. He is simply saying that Qadian will not always be a good place and will also become bad at one point. These statements are said by the religious saints and scholars where they make such comparisons. Here are some examples:

When we look at Chachran Sharif for example which was the homeland of Hazrat Khawajah Ghulam Farid(ra), it is given a extremely high status. One of his followers wrote:

“Chachran appears to be like Madinah and Kot Mithan like Baitullah. Apparently, it is our beloved Farid, but deep within, it is Allah”

This simply shows that the blessings and Light of Allah also descended upon these villages. It does not mean that the writer claimed the village to be greater than Madinah or Mecca.

Haji Imdadullah Muhajir Makki used to say:

“Wherever this impoverished one should reside, That place shall be Makkah and Madinah and the Tomb of the Prophet(saw)” (Khairul Afadat, Malfuzat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi Published by Idaah Islamiyyat Lahore, August 1982)

The Sheikh of India Maulana Mahmood Hasan stated in regards to Maulavi Rashid Ahmad of Gangoh:

“People who still maintain zest for knowledge and wisdom in their bosoms- will wander in Ka’bah, asking for the way to Gangoh.

By comparing your enlightened tomb to Mount Sinai, I keep pleading again and again “show me your face” See how Simple I am. ” (See Mersiyah, By Mahmood Hasan, President Deoband Pages 6-17 Published by Matba Bilali Sadhora, Ambala Distt.)

Why was there not a fatwa against one of the leaders of the Deobandi Sect? He has compared the tomb to where Allah spoke to Moses(as). These words are respected and never has anyone accused these words. He is basically saying that people of faith are not able to achieve peace until they ask the way to Gangoh and that Makkah and the Holy Ka”bah are only a compass while Gangoh has become the two of the Qibla, God forbid.

Allamah Iqbal respected by millions around India till today states:

“It is the homeland of Guatama; and a sanctuary honoured by Japan, For the lovers of Jesus it is a small Jerusalem (Bayat-e-Iqbal, page 328 Published by A’ina-e-Adab Chowk Minar Anarkali, Lahore Second Edition, 1947)

Hazrat Baba Faridud Din Ganj Shakar stated:

“A dervish must cover 70,000 spiritual stations. At the first station the dervish reaches a stage where he offers his five daily prayers before God’s Throne along with its residents; and whenever the dervish returns from there, he always sees himself inside the Holy Ka’bah. When the dervish returns, he sees the entire world between his fingers” (Anwar-e-Sabri By Hafiz Ubaidullah Sabri, Islami Kutub Khanah , Gujranwala, Page 118)

Furthermore, Sultanul Mashaikh Khawajah Nizamuddin Auliya stated:

“On one occasion, I became very eager to make the pilgrimage to the Holy Ka’bah. I had decided to pay a visit to Pakpattan (A city in Pakistan) before setting off for the Hajj. Upon reaching the noble city of Pakpattan, I was honoured to encounter Hudur Sheikhul-Islam Hazrat Baba Sahib (ra), and the purpose of my performing the pilgrimage was fulfilled and I obtained even greater rewards from Allah”

He then states:

“After some time, the eagerness to perform Hajj again dominated my thoughts, so I once more visited Pakpattan and Allah further bestowed special bounties upon me. Sultanul-Mashaikh, with tears in his eyes, said with his blessed tongue: “That is the way to the Ka’bah, But here is the way to the friend (Anwar-e-Sabri By Hafiz Ubaidullah Sabri, Islami Kutub Khanah, Gujranwala page 172)

Exceeding Spirituality of Muhammad(saw)?

The anti Ahmadis quote Al Fazl of July 17 1922 and say that it claims

“It is abosolutely true that every person can progress and attain a higher and higher status, even beyond that of Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be on him”

This is just another lie. You will read all thousands of pages of Al Fazl and not find such a statement anywhere. You can read the entire library of Jamaat Ahmadiyya and never will you find such a statement. This is a clear fabrication and lie by the anti Ahmadi Mullahs since they have no allegations left.

In reality Hazrat Mirza Bashiruddin Mahmood Ahmad(ra) has stated:

Neither has any mother ever given birth to a child, nor will a child be born until the Day of Judgment, who can be greater than Muhammad(sa), the Messenger of Allah. (Friday Sermon delivered by Hadrat Khalifatul-Masih II(ra), February 11, 1944, published in The Al-Fazl Daily, Qadian, June 16, 1944. p. 8, vol. 22, no. 39)

He also states:

We say that God Almighty has not restricted anyone from surpassing the status of the Holy Prophet(sa). If anyone has the will to do so then he can try, but he will not be able to do so, because no one is capable of offering the sacrifices that have been offered by the Holy Prophet(sa) . It is obvious that the possibility of surpassing is different from actually surpassing. The possibility of surpassing only means that every person has the opportunity to advance, and that the path is not closed, but rather open for anyone; however, since no one has exceeded the status of the Holy Prophet(sa), this establishes that no one else can display the love of Allah that has been exemplified by the Holy Prophet(sa). Ordinary people aside, not even Hadrat Ibrahimas, Musa as and ‘Isa as [Abraham, Moses and Jesus] could demonstrate that ability.(Al Fazl)

He further states:

If someone asks me whether anybody can achieve a status higher than the Holy Prophet(sa), I tell them that Allah has not closed that door. But show me a man who can move faster than the Holy Prophet(sa) on the path of achieving nearness to God. Something hypothetically happening is clearly different than it actually happening. Allah tells the Holy Prophet(sa) in the Holy Quran to say to the Christians that if God had a son, he [i.e. Muhammad(sa)] would be the first one to worship him. But this does not mean that God has a son. Similarly, we do not say that there is anyone in the world who has surpassed the status of the Holy Prophet(sa). We say that if anyone wants to exceed his status he may try, for God has not closed that door; but the reality is that never has any mother ever given birth to a child, nor will a child ever be born until the Day of Judgment, who can be greater than Muhammad(sa), Messenger of Allah. (Ibid.)

Most Hated Organ?

This is by far one of the most foolish allegations of the non Ahmadi Muslims till today. They quote a poem of the Promised Messiah(as) which shows how humble he was, and make a mockery out of it. The poem couplet they quote out of context is:

“I am neither an earth-worm nor a human being. I am the most hated organ of the human body and a shame for hmanity” (Ruhani Khazain Volume 21, Page 127)

What they misunderstand here is the humility of the Promised Messiah(as) and a common way of poetry of the saints throughout Islamic history. We also have such statements in the Qur’an from the Prophets of Allah.

Allah States a statement of Yusuf(as) which is as follows:

وَمَا أُبَرِّئُ نَفْسِي ۚ إِنَّ النَّفْسَ لَأَمَّارَةٌ بِالسُّوءِ إِلَّا مَا رَحِمَ رَبِّي ۚ إِنَّ رَبِّي غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ {54}

“‘And I do not hold my own self to be free from weakness; for, the soul is surely prone to enjoin evil, save that whereon my Lord has mercy. Surely, my Lord is Most Forgiving, Merciful.” (Chapter 12 verse 54)

Allah further States a statement of Yunus(as) which is as follows:

وَذَا النُّونِ إِذْ ذَهَبَ مُغَاضِبًا فَظَنَّ أَنْ لَنْ نَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ فَنَادَىٰ فِي الظُّلُمَاتِ أَنْ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ{88}

And remember Dha’l-Nun, when he went away in anger, and he thought that We would never cause him distress and he cried out in depths of darkness, saying, ‘There is no God but Thou, Holy art Thou. I have indeed been of the wrongdoers.’(Chapter 21 Verse 88)
Now let us see another part of the Poem of Ahmad(as):

“Though by calling us Kafir they went far distant from us,
Yet still we are in mourning for them, grieving and sorrowing.
We know that their hearts have become like stone,
Yet from stone can flow the stream of faith
However hard their hearts may be, we have not lost hope,
The verse “despair not” keeps our hearts firm
Our daily occupation is to shed tears before the Lord of favours,
Out of this river of tears will we bring forth at last a tree laden with fruit”

This is the other part of them poem. Is Ahmad(as) not mocked extremely disgustingly by the non Ahmadi Muslims? This is what he(as) is expressing to Allah. We see similar points in poems from Saints of Islamic history.

Maulana Zakariyah states:

“Hazrat Shah Ishaq Muhajiree Makki advised to Imdadullah Muhajir Makki : “Regard yourself to be most inferior in the entire creation” (Mashaikh-e-Chist (Eng Translation) Page 217)

Maulana Muhammad Qasim Nanotwi the founder of Darul-Uloom Deobandi stated in a poem recorded in Fazaail-e-Aamaal:

“Because of the huge amount of sins even the dogs treat my name as an abuse, but I am proud of your name and your relationship (Allah’s Messenger(saw)) and I desire that my name be included as a dog of (the streets of ) Medina. May I live with the dogs of your Haram and when I die may my corpse be eaten by the vultures of Medina.” (Fazaail-e-Aamaal, The Virtues of Durood Page 164, No. 46, Edition of 1985 Published by Dini Book Depot, Delhi)

Maulana Ilyas signs his letters addressing himself as “The Dog of the Prophets city” (Makatib Maulana Shah Mohammad Ilyas compiled by Sayed Abul-Hassan Ali Nadvi, Idara Ishaat al Diniyat, Nizamuddin New Delhi, Page 54)

Jalalddin al Rumi states:

“I was once like you, enlightened and “rational”. I too scoffed at lovers, Now I am drunk, crazed with misery. No one is safe! Watch Out”

Rabia Al Adawiyya States:

“O Lord Once I wanted You so Much
I didn’t even dare walk past Your house– An now I am not even worthy to be let in”

These statements are said by these famous scholars and many more and have nothing wrong in them.

Status of Qadian

The non Ahmadi Muslims accuse the Promised Messiah(as), the khulafa and the followers of Ahmadiyyat of holding Qadian to a high status. They do not realize that this was the place where Allah Sent the Imam Mahdi and Latter day Messiah which makes it obvious that the place holds a lot of importance. The homelands of many saints are also given extremely high statuses, so why should the birthplace of the Mahdi hold no significance?

When we look at Chachran Sharif for example which was the homeland of Hazrat Khawajah Ghulam Farid(ra), it is given a extremely high status. One of his followers wrote:

“Chachran appears to be like Madinah and Kot Mithan like Baitullah. Apparently, it is our beloved Farid, but deep within, it is Allah”

This simply shows that the blessings and Light of Allah also descended upon these villages. It does not mean that the writer claimed the village to be greater than Madinah or Mecca.

Why The Claim of Mujadid?

The allegation of the anti Ahmadis is that if Ahmad(as) was the mujadid why did he need to claim it? Certainly other mujadids must have also made this claim if it was necessary while no one has. This is a totally foolish allegation of the anti Ahmadi Muslims.

It is narrated by Imam Suyuti (ra) that Hadhrat Umar Ibn Abd Al Aziz(ra) claimed to be the mujadid of the age (Tarikh al Khulafa)

It was also stated that Imam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal (ra) stated that Hadhrat Umar Ibn Abd Al Aziz(ra) was the mujadid of the first century of hijra while Imam Shafi(ra) was the mujadid of the second century (Hanbal, Imam Abu Abd Allah Ahmad, Aun Al Ma’bud, Sharh Abu Dawood Volume 4 page 148)

Hadhrat Shah Wali Ullah Dehlvi(ra) claimed to be honored with the robe of a reformer (Shah, Sayyid Wali Ullah, Tafhimat Ilahiyya)

Hadhrat Sayyid Ahmad Shah Barelvi(ra) claimed the leadership of the Muslim ummah in the capacity of a mujadid (Barelvi, Ahmad Shah, Swanih Ahmadi page 245)

Hadhrat Sheikh Ahmad(ra) of Sirhind who is known as Mujadid Al Thani because of his claim to be the Mujadid (Sirhind, Sheikh Ahmad, Maktubat Volume 2 Letter 4)

Hadhrat Imam Ghazali (ra) explained how he had attained the status and how he became the mujadid of his age (Ghazali, Imam, Al Munqidh min al Dalal)

Hadhrat Imam Taymiyyah(ra) referred to himself as the mujadid of his age as well while Imam Suyuti (ra) hoped to be the mujadid of the age (Imam Suyuti, Hujuj al Kiramah, Page 138)

It is clear that there is nothing wrong with the claim of being a mujadid and many have done it in the past. Its also true that when the messiah was to arrive he would be the mujadid of the age, while his khulafa as prophesied by the Holy Prophet(Saw), would also be the mujadids.

Ahmad(as), Really of Persian Descent?

There is a beautiful prophecy in the Qur’an in regards to Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad(as). Allah states in the Qur’an:

He it is Who has raised among the Unlettered people a Messenger from among themselves who recites unto them His Signs, and purifies them, and teaches them the Book and wisdom, although they had been, before, in manifest misguidance; And among others from among them who have not yet joined them. He is the Mighty, the Wise.(Chapter 62 verse 3-4)

This is a prophecy of the Holy Qur’an that others who are not with the sahaba would also see the Prophet Muhammad(Saw). Now one may ask how can this be ? The amazing part is that the Prophet Muhammad(saw) in Bukhari Kitabut Tafseer has explained this ayah through revelation from Allah and taught us how this coming would be metaphorical. The Prophet Muhammad(saw) states:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

While we were sitting with the Prophet (ﷺ) Surat Al-Jumu’a was revealed to him, and when the Verse, “And He (Allah) has sent him (Muhammad) also to other (Muslims)…..’ (62.3) was recited by the Prophet, I said, “Who are they, O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)?” The Prophet (ﷺ) did not reply till I repeated my question thrice. At that time, Salman Al-Farisi was with us. So Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) put his hand on Salman, saying, “If Faith were at (the place of) Ath-Thuraiya (pleiades, the highest star), even then (some men or man from these people (i.e. Salman’s folk) would attain it.”(Sahih Bukhari, Volume 6, Book 60, Hadith #420)

The ignorant anti Ahmadis who have no reply to this argument which proves that a prophet had to come, and that he would be of Persian lineage rather than that same messiah who died 2000 years ago according to the Qur’an, so they bring up a ignorant statement against Ahmad(as). They try to state that his ancestors were from China rather from Persia.

Geography and history are to be understood in their own respective spheres. Geography is influenced by history and has continuously been changing. The history shapes geography and the geography of today may not be the same geography of yesterday or tomorrow. When a prophecy is made we should look at the geography of that time. When the Holy Prophet(saw) prophesied that one would come from Ahl-e-Faras, what was Faras? This is the question. The Iranian empire during this time extended right through China and an Iranian could be of Chinese origin of this time. Chinese people also migrated from China and settled in Iran, and became Iranian. Many of us have settled in Pakistan and now when someone asks us where we are from, we state Pakistan. Would it make sense for one to tell us we are wrong and that no, we are from India? Of course not. This was not the Iran of today. The Iran at the time of this prophecy was when the empire was much larger. One was the eastern empire while one was the western empire. The eastern empire was much bigger than the western empire. They extended right into China, rather a great part of China was at that time a part of Iran. Fars was a province of Iran and the Arabs use Fars for the entire Iran. Anyone who was Iranian could be called Ahl-e-Faras and an Iranian could be of Chinese origin at this time. History changes, along with geography. In this perspective, when one states that Ahmad(as)’s family tree originally the Promised Messiah(as)’s family is from the parts of Mongolia which are today known as China but in the days of the prophecy they were Iran. Later on the family further shifted from those parts to inner Iran and after that they settled in Punjab. So in reality they were Chinese, Iranian and also Punjabis. But we have to remember that at the time of the prophecy China was included in Ahl-e-Faras and this prophecy was indeed fulfilled through Ahmad(as), Of Qadian.

Jihad Against the British

The allegation of the non Ahmadi Muslims is that Ahmad(as) did not allow Jihad against the British government. The problem is that the non Ahmadi Muslims do not understand what Ahmad(as)’s reasons were for his statements. This view itself was not only the view of The Promised Messiah Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad(as). The ones who raise such allegations are ignorant of the teachings of Islam and jihad. It is recorded in regards to Hazrat Ahmad Shah Barelvi(ra) that he was going out for jihad against the Sikhs and was asked why he does not fight the British who are so close to him yet he is going far to fight against the Sikhs. He replied to this by saying

“’The British government may be deniers of Islam, but they do not oppress Muslims nor prevent them from their religious obligations and worship. For what reason then should we fight jihad against them and needlessly shed the blood on both sides, contrary to the principles of Islam” (Barelvi, Hadhrat Sayyid Ahmad Shah, Musalmanon ka Roshan Mustaqbil)

This opinion was also shared with a follower of Hadhrat Sayyid Ahmad Shah barelvi, Hadhrat Sayyid Muha, mad Ismail Shaeed(ra) who stated:

“’In no way is it obligatory to fight Jihad against them. Firstly, we are their subjects. Secondly, they do not interfere in the performance of our religious duties. We have every kind of freedom under their rule. In fact, if someone attacks them, Muslims must fight the attacker and not let their government be harmed a whit”(Shaheed, Sayyid Muhammad Ismail, Hayyat Tayabba)

Sayyid Nazir Husain who was a Muhaddith of Delhi and a prominent leader of the Ahle Hadith in India and despite being against the true Islam, he stated:

“’The authority of the British in India is lawful and in accordance with the Quranic injunction: “0 ye who believe, obey Allah and His Messenger and those in authority amongst you” ‘it is unlawful to wage war against the British Raj” (Husain, Maulvi Nazir, Ata Ullah Shah Bukhari, page 135)

The muhaddith of Delhi declared British India to be the land of Peace and stated:

“’Since the criterion of Jihad is absent from this land, to conduct Jihad here would be a means of destruction and sin” (Ibid, Fatwa Naziriyya, Volume iv, page 472)

He referred to the period of the Indian mutiny of 1857 by stating:

“’If anyone lets loose such mischief today, he would also be the same kind of trouble maker and from the beginning to the end, he would stain the name of Islam” (Ibid, Page 15)

He further stated in regards of those who do act against the British Raj:

“is not only a mischief maker in the eyes of the rulers but he shall be the farthest from what Islam requires and from the way of the believers, and he shall be regarded as a violator of the covenant, unfaithful to his religion, and a perpetrator of the greatest sin. What his condition will be on the Day of Judgment will become evident there.”(Ibid, Page 17)

Again another statement from Maulvi Hussain Batalvi is as follows:

“all religious wars against the British Government of India and against the authority which has granted religious freedom, is forbidden by and contrary to the law of Islam and those people who take up weapons against the British Government of India or against any sovereign who has granted religious freedom, and wish to conduct Jihad against them are all rebels and deserve punishment.” (Khan, Nawab Siddiq Hasan, Tarjuman e Wahabiyya page 61)

He also stated, in regards to participating in jihad against the British:

“’to all the ulama of Punjab and other parts of India and well publicized it. He obtained the seal and signatures of approval of all the ulama of Punjab and India in support of the ruling that the taking up of arms by Indian Muslims and Jihad by them against the British Government of India was opposed to the Sunnah and the faith of monotheists.” (Ibid)

Another statement from the ulama of northern India stated:

“’The Musalmans here are protected by Christians, and there is no Jihad in a country where protection is afforded, as the absence of protection and liberty between Musalmans and infidels is essential in a religious war, and that condition does not exist here” (Ibid)

A fatwa from the ulama of East India who stated:

“’Jihad can by no means be lawfully made in Darul Islam. This is so evident that it requires no argument or authority in its support. Now, if any misguided wretch, owing to his perverse fortune, were to wage war against the ruling power of this country, British India, such war would be rightly pronounced rebellion, and rebellion is strictly forbidden by the Islamic law. Therefore such war will likewise be unlawful and in case anyone does wage such a war, Muslim subjects would be bound to assist their Rulers, and in conjunction with them, fight such rebels.” (Ibid Page 219)

Maulvi Abul Ala Maududi also stated:

“’when the British supremacy was established and Muslims had accepted to live in India under their own personal law, this territory was no more Darul Harb.” (Maududi, Sayyid Abul Ala, Book on Interests, Pt 1, Pages 77-78)

According to the anti Ahmadis all of these scholars who they treat as the most righteous of the Muslim ummah have all went against Islam. It is interesting to see the extent they go to in the mockery of Ahmad(as). Ahmad(as) stated that Jihad with the sword was not permissible against the legitimate government of India as he believed India was a place where Muslims were given the rights they deserve and this is a valid belief which the greatest scholars of the Sunnis and the greatest anti Ahmadis have held.

Abrogation of Jihad?

One of the most popular allegations against the founder of Ahmadiyyat, The Promised Messiah (as) Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad(as) is that he had abrogated Jihad. This is just another deception of the anti Ahmadi Muslims. They quote the passage quite often where Ahmad(as) has stated:

“’We believe that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and Seyyidna Hadhrat Muhammad Mustaphasa is His Messenger and is the Seal of Prophets. We believe that the angels, the resurrection of the body, the day of judgment, heaven and hell are a reality. We also believe that whatever God, the Lord of the Hosts has stated in the noble Quran and whatever our Prophetsa has said in relation to these is true. We believe that whosoever subtracts the smallest particle in from the law of Islam, or adds to it, or lays the foundation of neglecting obligations and indifference towards them, is without faith and is turned away from Islam. I admonish the members of my community that they should, in true sincerity, have faith in the Kalimah; Laa ilaaha ila1laah Muhammadur Rasuulullaah and they should die in this faith. They should believe in all prophets and books, the truth of which is affirmed by the noble Quran. They should observe the fast and perform the salat and pay the zakat and performHajj and carry out all that God Almighty and His Messenger have prescribed and also abstain from all that has been forbidden and thus conform in every respect to Islamic commandments. They should accept all that is supported by the consensus of the righteous ones who have passed away and all that is considered as part of Islam by the consensus of the Ahle Sunnat. We call to witness the heavens and the earth that this is our religion” (Ruhani Khazain, Volume 14, Page 323, Ayyamus Sulh Page 87)

The anti Ahmadis try to state that because Ahmad(as) has not mentioned Jihad in the summary of his beliefs prove that the Ahmadi Muslims who follow him do not believe in jihad and are totally against it. This is one of the most ignorant allegation as it seems that these people raising such allegations have never read the ahadith of the Holy Prophet(saw). For example one hadith from the Book of Belief of Sahih Bukhari states:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

One day while the Prophet (ﷺ) was sitting in the company of some people, (The angel) Gabriel came and asked, “What is faith?” Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) replied, ‘Faith is to believe in Allah, His angels, (the) meeting with Him, His Apostles, and to believe in Resurrection.” Then he further asked, “What is Islam?” Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) replied, “To worship Allah Alone and none else, to offer prayers perfectly to pay the compulsory charity (Zakat) and to observe fasts during the month of Ramadan.” Then he further asked, “What is Ihsan (perfection)?” Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) replied, “To worship Allah as if you see Him, and if you cannot achieve this state of devotion then you must consider that He is looking at you.” Then he further asked, “When will the Hour be established?” Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) replied, “The answerer has no better knowledge than the questioner. But I will inform you about its portents.

When a slave (lady) gives birth to her master.

When the shepherds of black camels start boasting and competing with others in the construction of higher buildings. And the Hour is one of five things which nobody knows except Allah.

The Prophet (ﷺ) then recited: “Verily, with Allah (Alone) is the knowledge of the Hour–.” (31. 34) Then that man (Gabriel) left and the Prophet (ﷺ) asked his companions to call him back, but they could not see him. Then the Prophet (ﷺ) said, “That was Gabriel who came to teach the people their religion.” Abu ‘Abdullah said: He (the Prophet) considered all that as a part of faith.(Sahih Al Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 2, Hadith #48)

Another hadith states:

It is narrated on the authority of Yahya b. Ya’mur that the first man who discussed qadr (Divine Decree) in Basra was Ma’bad al-Juhani. I along with Humaid b. ‘Abdur-Rahman Himyari set out for pilgrimage or for ‘Umrah and said:

Should it so happen that we come into contact with one of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) we shall ask him about what is talked abouttaqdir (Divine Decree). Accidentally we came across Abdullah ibn Umar ibn al-Khattab, while he was entering the mosque. My companion and I surrounded him. One of us (stood) on his right and the other stood on his left. I expected that my companion would authorize me to speak. I therefore said: Abu Abdur Rahman! There have appeared some people in our land who recite the Qur’an and pursue knowledge. And then after talking about their affairs, added: They (such people) claim that there is no such thing as Divine Decree and events are not predestined. He (Abdullah ibn Umar) said: When you happen to meet such people tell them that I have nothing to do with them and they have nothing to do with me. And verily they are in no way responsible for my (belief). Abdullah ibn Umar swore by Him (the Lord) (and said): If any one of them (who does not believe in the Divine Decree) had with him gold equal to the bulk of (the mountain) Uhud and spent it (in the way of Allah), Allah would not accept it unless he affirmed his faith in Divine Decree. He further said: My father, Umar ibn al-Khattab, told me: One day we were sitting in the company of Allah’s Apostle (peace be upon him) when there appeared before us a man dressed in pure white clothes, his hair extraordinarily black. There were no signs of travel on him. None amongst us recognized him. At last he sat with the Apostle (peace be upon him) He knelt before him placed his palms on his thighs and said: Muhammad, inform me about al-Islam. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Al-Islam implies that you testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah, and you establish prayer, pay Zakat, observe the fast of Ramadan, and perform pilgrimage to the (House) if you are solvent enough the journey. He (the inquirer) said: You have told the truth. He (Umar ibn al-Khattab) said: It amazed us that he would put the question and then he would himself verify the truth. He (the inquirer) said: Inform me about Iman (faith). He (the Holy Prophet) replied: That you affirm your faith in Allah, in His angels, in His Books, in His Apostles, in the Day of Judgment, and you affirm your faith in the Divine Decree about good and evil. He (the inquirer) said: You have told the truth. He (the inquirer) again said: Inform me about al-Ihsan (performance of good deeds). He (the Holy Prophet) said: That you worship Allah as if you are seeing Him, for though you don’t see Him, He, verily, sees you. He (the enquirer) again said: Inform me about the hour (of the Doom). He (the Holy Prophet) remarked: One who is asked knows no more than the one who is inquiring (about it). He (the inquirer) said: Tell me some of its indications. He (the Holy Prophet) said: That the slave-girl will give birth to her mistress and master, that you will find barefooted, destitute goat-herds vying with one another in the construction of magnificent buildings. He (the narrator, Umar ibn al-Khattab) said: Then he (the inquirer) went on his way but I stayed with him (the Holy Prophet) for a long while. He then, said to me: Umar, do you know who this inquirer was? I replied: Allah and His Apostle knows best. He (the Holy Prophet) remarked: He was Gabriel (the angel). He came to you in order to instruct you in matters of religion.(Sahih Muslim Book 1, Hadith #1)

Another hadith states:

Narrated Ibn ‘Umar:

Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: Islam is based on (the following) five (principles):
To testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and Muhammad is Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ).
To offer the (compulsory congregational) prayers dutifully and perfectly.
To pay Zakat (i.e. obligatory charity) .
To perform Hajj. (i.e. Pilgrimage to Mecca)
To observe fast during the month of Ramadan.

(Sahih Al Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 2, Hadith #8)

All of these ahadith of the Holy Prophet(saw) which are only a few of many more, which speak about the belief in relation to Islam and ones faith, do not differ from the statement of Ahmad(as) at all. I ask the people who raise such questions whether they believe they know more about the articles of faith and pillars of Islam more than the Holy Prophet Muhammad(saw) and the Angel Gabriel who brought such revelation from Allah? Yes Jihad is not mentioned in Ayyamus Sulh by Ahmad(as) but neither has it been mentioned by the Holy Prophet(saw) or by Allah for an article of faith or a pillar of Islam. This does not mean jihad is not important as Ahmad(as) himself wrote hundreds of pages on Jihad and in fact an entire book was dedicated to this subject alone. The only difference between the opponents of the true Islam is they do not understand what jihad is. They believe jihad is the wearing of a sword and killing the innocent people while we believe in the Qur’an and that there is no compulsion in religion and no one should be brought to a religion through force.

Ahmad(as) has stated:

‘As to the means and arrangements to be used, whether for physical warfare or spiritual warfare, whether the battle is by sword or by the pen, the following verse is sufficient for our guidance: ‘Make ready for them whatever force you can.’ In this verse God empowers us to employ against the enemy all suitable means and to use the method which we consider to be most effective.'(Ruhani Khazain Volume 14, Page 454, Haqeeqatul Mahdi page 28)

Ahmad(as) explained beautifully that during his time Islam was being attacked by the pen so it was the duty of the Muslims to reply with the pen and subtle arguments against the anti Islamists rather than raging a war against them. The pen is a weapon for Muslims and it’s our duty to do this jihad of pen as well and it is the jihad of our time today. Taking up the sword against people who take it against Islam is allowed (Ruhani Khazain volume 11, page 37, Anjam-e-Atham)

Ahmad(as) further stated: “The Jihad of this age is to propagate Islam and refute the allegations of the critics; to spread the beauty of the true religion, Islam, in the world, and to manifest the truth of the Holy Prophet(saw) to the world” (Letter to Mir Nawab in Ruhani Khazain)

It should be remembered that Ahmad(as) did not abrogate the Jihad of the sword at all. He clearly stated that it is the conditions that matter and stated:

“This is Jihad, until God produces different circumstances in the world” (Letter to Mir Nawab In Ruhani Khazain)

It is clear that Ahmad(as) did not abrogate Jihad at all rather described the conditions one needs in order to participate in the jihad of the sword which were clearly not fulfilled. Ahmad(as) further stated:

“’The Holy Quran clearly forbids the use of force for the spread of the faith and directs its propagation through its inherent qualities and good example of Muslims. Do not be misled by the notion that in the beginning the Muslims were commanded to take up the sword. The sword was not taken up for the spread of the faith, but in self defense against the enemies of Islam and for the purpose of establishing peace and security. It was no part of the purpose of taking it up to have recourse to coercion in the matter of faith.”(Ruhani Khazain Volume 15, Pages 120-121)

Ahmad(as) has also stated:

“I have brought you a commandment which is that Jihad with the sword has been ended but the Jihad of the purification of your spirit must continue to be waged. I say this not on my own part but in order to proclaim the design of God. Reflect on the hadeeth of Bukhari wherein it is stated that the Promised Messiah would put an end to fighting for the faith. Accordingly, I command those who have joined my ranks that they should discard all such notions. They should spread peace on the earth, for this would cause their faith to spread.”(Ruhani Khazain Volume 17 page 15, British Government and Jihad)

This is completely taken out of context as the Promised Messiah(as) was mentioning the Hadith of the Holy Prophet Muhammad(saw) where it is stated that the Messiah(as) would end religious wars and this is a authentic hadith which the non Ahmadi Muslims accept and is present in Bukhari in a different version stating that he would abolish Jizya, while Fathul Bari makes it clear that the meaning of this is end religious wars which is also present in some versions of Bukhari.

Many Muslims throughout the history of Islam have had similar views to Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad(as) on the concept of Jihad. One famous person is Hazrat Imam Fakhr Ud Din Razi(ra) the writer of the great tafsir called tafsir kabir, who stated:

“As for the verse, Strive against them a great Jihad, some say that it refers to efforts in preaching while others say it refers to fighting. Some others say it includes both. The first meaning is most accurate because this verse was revealed at Mecca and the command to fight came after the emigration.”(Razi, Hadhrat Imam Fakhr ud Din Razi, Tafsir Kabir, Volume iv, page 330)

Furthermore, the famous Indian intellectual who many know named Maulana Abul Kalam Azadwas stated:

“There is a serious misconception regarding what Jihad is. Many people think that Jihad means only to fight. The critics of Islam too labor under this misunderstanding whereas to think thus is to utterly narrow the practical scope of this sacred commandment. Jihad means to strive to the utmost. In the Quran and the Sunnah terminology, this utmost exertion, which is undertaken for the sake of truth rather than personal ends, is indicated by the word jihad.”(Azad, Maulana Abul Kalam, Masala Khilafat, page 47)”

The same view was also held into account by Sayyid Sulaiman Nadwi of Deoband who stated that Jihad is generally taken to mean qital and fighting but this limitation of significance is entirely wrong (Nadwi, Sayyid Sulaiman, Vide. Sirat an Nabi volume v page 199)

He also stated:

“It means striving and effort. Its technical meaning is also close to this, that is, to undertake all kinds of struggle and exertion for the supremacy, propagation and defense of the truth and to make sacrifices and employ in the way of God all physical, material and mental resources which He has given to His servants, so much so as to sacrifice one’s own life and that of one’s family and nation. To oppose the efforts of the opponents of the truth and foil their plans; counter their attacks and be ready to fight them in the field of battle is also Jihad. Regrettably, our opponents have reduced the scope of this important and broad significance without which no movement in the world has or can succeed to merely war with the enemies of the faith” (Nadwi, Sayyid Sulaiman, Vide. Sirat an Nabi Volume V, Pages 200-201)

Maulana Muhammad Hasan Rampuri was also of the same opinion that war is not Jihad but qital and only arises now and then while jihad is to strive to proclaim the word of God(Hasan, Maulana Muhammad, Sawanih Ahmadi page 108)

Maulvi Abu Ala Maududi also had a similar opinion since he declared that in the terminology of the shariah qital and jihad are two different things (Maududi, Abul Ala, Finality of Prophethood)

A person of the Jamiat Mile Sunnat stated:

“Jihad is derived from Jahd, meaning literally effort and striving. In the technical sense, it is used for proclaiming the word of God and the supremacy of the success of Islam (Dawat, 13 November 1964)

One of the Kings of Saudi Arabia named Faisal Ibn Saud stated:

“You have been called to raise the banner of jihad in the way of God. Jihad is not taking up the guns or raising the sword. Jihad is to invite to the Book of God and the example of the Prophet; to hold fast to them and to stick to them despite all kinds of difficulties, distress and affliction (Saud, Faisal Ibn Umm al Quran, 24 April 1965)

There were many differences in the ummah on this subject which is another reason the messiah was sent by Allah which was to fix these differences and show the true interpretation. Maulvi Saeed Abinad of the Jamiat at Ula’a Hind hated the opinion of the mullahs who were thirsty to kill the disbelievers and only believed jihad to be of the sword and stated that the jihad of every age is different (Al Jamiat 28 January 1931 page 2)

The famous Muhaddith of Delhi Allama Abdul Haq Haqqani also stated “to debate and argue with the heretics is also jihad” (Haqqani, Abdul Haqq Tafsir Haqqani volume iv page 112)

Even one of the bitterest opponent of Islam Ahmadiyya Muhammad Hussain Batalvi a a scholar for the Ahle Hadith stated:

“The age of the sword is no more. Now instead of the sword, it is necessary to wield the pen” (Batalvi, Maulvi Muhammad Hussain, Ishaatus Sunnah, volume vi number 12, December 1883, page 364)

Maulvi Sanaullah Amrtisari another maulvi who hated the true Islam stated:

“As at that time our ulama had declared Jihad with the sword to be rebellion and insurrection, and to be haram, and the opponents of Islam were waging war by the pen, the need then was for Jihad with the pen” (Amritsari, Maulvi Sanaullah Iman 1948)

Allama Muhammad Iqbal also stated:

“The powers of Islam are not limited. There was an age of the sword. Today is the age of the pen. It attacks from within and without and compels you from every angle to accept it” (Iqbal, Muhammad, Paigam e Sulh, 4 January 1928)

Maulvi Zahid Al Hussaini Stated:

“This is the age of Jihad by the pen. Today the pen has spread much trouble. The person who does Jihad by the pen is the greatest Mujahid” (Husaini, Maulvi Zahid al Khuddum Ud Din Lahore, 1 October 1965)

The director general of the Islamic foundation at Leicester stated:

“The war of aggression, Islam rules out, because Islam has come to bring an end to aggression and establish peace” (Ahmad, Prof Khurshid, International Review of Missions, October 1976, Volume ixv Page 252)

These are similar statements to what Ahmad(as) had said over hundred years ago. He explained the true teachings of Islam to the Muslim world and stated:

“No true Muslim has ever believed that Islam should be spread by the sword. Islam has always been propagated through its inherent qualities. Those who, calling themselves Muslims seek to spread Islam by means of the sword are not aware of its inherent qualities and their conduct resembles the conduct of wild beasts” (Ruhani Khazain, Volume 16, Page 167, Tiryaqul Qulub, Page 21)

The Heavenly Graveyard

Firstly one has to understand that the institution of this heavenly graveyard was a prophecy of the Holy Prophet Muhammad(saw).

There is a Prophecy in regards to the latter day Messiah recorded in Sahih Muslim which states:

يُحَدِّثُهُمْ بِدَرَجَاتِهِمْ فِي الْجَنَّةِ

“would inform them of their ranks in Paradise” (Sahih Muslim, Book 54, Hadith #136)

The way this beautiful prophecy was fulfilled, was with the Heavenly Graveyard. Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad(as) said:

Some twenty to twenty-five minutes before the time of the (Fajr) Prayer, I saw in a dream as if I had purchased a piece of land for the purpose of converting it into a graveyard for our Jama‘at. I was told that its name would be Maqbarah Bahishti, meaning that whoever is buried there would be admitted to Paradise. Then I saw that some old gospels had been discovered in Kashmir which would break the cross. I proposed that some persons should go there and bring those gospels so that a book could be written about them. Hearing this Maulavi Mubarak ‘Ali declared his readiness to go but requested that a place should be kept for him in the Maqbarah Bahishti. I said: Khalifah Nur-ud-Din should also be sent with him….

The Promised Messiah(as) continued: Sometime back I had planned that there should be a separate graveyard for our Jama‘at. God has now approved of my plan. Injil [Gospel] means good news. It would seem that God intends to manifest some great news from Kashmir and that the person who would carry through this task would certainly enter Paradise. (Tadhkirah Page 566, [al-Badr, vol. 1, no. 5 and 6, November28 and December 5, 1902, p. 35 and al-Hakam, vol. 6, no. 42, November 24, 1902, p. 4] )

This graveyard itself was the fulfillment of the Prophecy. Ahmad(as) states:

The third condition is that a person who seeks burial in this graveyard should be righteous and should refrain from all that is forbidden and should not indulge in anything which has a smattering of associating others with God or of an innovation. He should be a true and plain Muslim. Every righteous person who possesses no property and can render no financial assistance can be given burial in this graveyard if it is proved that he had devoted his life to the faith and was in every way a righteous …….

It would not he enough to contribute one tenth of moveable and immovable property but it would be necessary that the testator should, as far as is possible for him, act upon Islamic commandments and should strive after righteousness and purity and should have sincere faith in the Holy Prophet and should not contravene the rights of his fellow creatures. (Al-Wassiyyat, p.24)

The means of this was not only in regards to financial matters, rather of living a life full of purity and righteousness.

There is no allegation against this which can possibly exist. There is nothing wrong with a prophet conveying good news of paradise to their followers. It is narrated in Bukhari:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

That heard Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) saying, “We are the last but will be the foremost to enter Paradise).” The Prophet added, “He who obeys me, obeys Allah, and he who disobeys me, disobeys Allah. He who obeys the chief, obeys me, and he who disobeys the chief, disobeys me. The Imam is like a shelter for whose safety the Muslims should fight and where they should seek protection. If the Imam orders people with righteousness and rules justly, then he will be rewarded for that, and if he does the opposite, he will be responsible for that.”(Sahih Bukhari, Volume 4, Book 52, Hadith #204)

He(saw) also conveyed the news of Paradise to ten of his companions which is clearly known to many Muslims as the Ashra Mubasharah. The Holy Prophet Muhammad(saw) also initiated a graveyard called Jannatul Baquee which means the heavenly graveyard as well. The graveyard initiated by the Promised Messiah(as) was the outcome of divine revelation by Allah and a fulfillment of the hadith of Sahih Muslim. There is no possible objection against this.

Gradual Claims of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad(as)

The allegation against the Promised Messiah, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad(as) is that why was he first the mujadid and slowly after that his claim increased. The anti Ahmadis try to state that because his claim was increasing, this means he was lying, God forbid. The non Ahmadis try to state that Ahmad(as)’s claim increased which means it was from his heart and to a point where he called himself a subordinate prophet. Not only that but even the Promised Guru, and that I am the one who all religions are waiting for.

Now when we look at the Christians, they have the same allegations against the Holy Prophet Muhammad(saw). They state that why did the Holy Prophet Muhammad(saw) first call the people of his house and his relatives and slowly become the prophet for all of mankind. They also suggest that this means he made the claims out of his heart, rather from Allah.

Allah Tells The Holy Prophet Muhammad(saw) in regards to his claim :

And warn thy nearest kinsmen (Chapter 26, Verse 215)

Allah did not tell the Holy Prophet Muhammad(saw) the first time that you are a prophet for the entire mankind, rather to warn your nearest kinsmen. Then after that, Muhammad(saw) was a Prophet for the people around Mecca and the nearing people including the Mushriks of that area. After that the Holy Prophet Muhammad(saw) was told that he is the prophet for the People of the Book. After this Allah revealed to him:

Say, ‘O mankind! truly I am a Messenger to you all from Allah to Whom belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. There is no God but He. He gives life, and He causes death. So believe in Allah and His Messenger, the Prophet, the Immaculate one, who believes in Allah and His words; and follow him that you may be rightly guided.’(Chapter 7, Verse 159)

Here Allah told the Holy Prophet Muhammad(saw) that he is a prophet for the entire mankind. Allah slowly told the Prophet Muhammad(saw) this, rather than revealing it the very first day. They try to state that this increase means that the Prophet was god forbid a liar, and the non Ahmadi Muslims say the same against the Promised Messiah(as). This is totally baseless.

If someone makes a claim and people reply to him in a harsh way and start to throw rocks at him, would a liar make a greater claim or something smaller? Common sense tells us that if he was a liar, he would, obviously, claim something smaller. A sign of the Prophets is that the Prophets are treated harshly and treated in a horrible manner and this proves there truthfulness. When the Holy Prophet Muhammad(saw) made his first claim of prophethood, a lot became his enemies. He did not take his claim back, rather Allah revealed to him slowly and after he was told by Allah that he is a prophet for all of mankind, the enemies increased.

The same happened with the Promised Messiah(as), Mirza Ghulam Ahmad(as). When he claimed to be the mahdi, death threats began against him. When Allah told him that Isa(as) has died, and he claimed this, people started to set fires in India. When Ahmad(as) claimed Guru Nanak was a Muslim, and the prophecy of a wali which he made was about me, the Sikhs also became opponents. When Ahmad(as) said Krishna(as) preached the message of one God, and I am that latter day reformer he prophesied. This is a sign of his truthfulness, just as the claims of the Holy Prophet Muhammad(saw) prove his truthfulness. The Prophets claims only grow rather than decrease. The Holy Prophet Muhammad(saw) was slowly told that he was a prophet for the entire mankind. As time went by, his claim grew, and this was what Allah revealed to him.

If the claims grow slowly, and the opponents grow on each claim, this only proves the truthfulness of the Prophet. Liars would not grow their claims, rather would retrieve them.

The Prophet always follows the revelation of Allah, and they do not make claims on their own. Allah revealed to the Holy Prophet Muhammad(saw):

Exalted then is Allah, the True King! And be not impatient for the Qur’an ere its revelation is completed unto thee, but only say, ‘O my Lord, increase me in knowledge.’(Chapter 20 Verse 115)

Why would Allah need to teach this prayer to the Holy Prophet Muhammad(saw), if he already knew everything? There would be no meaning of this prayer if Muhammad(saw) was taught everything at once.

At first the Prophet Muhammad(saw) did not right away claim to be the Seal of All the Prophets. A hadith states:

Anas b. Malik reported that a person came to Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) and said:

O, the best of creation; thereupon Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: He is Ibrahim (peace be upon him).(Sahih Muslim, Book 30, Hadith #5841)

At first, the Holy Prophet Muhammad(saw) denied being the best of creation. He did not let his companion say this about him. However later on, Allah revealed to the Holy Prophet Muhammad(saw) :

Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but he is the Messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets; and Allah has full knowledge of all things.(Chapter 33, Verse 41)
And The Holy Prophet Muhammad(saw) stated:

Narrated Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri:

that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “I am the chief of the children of Adam on the Day of Judgement and I am not boasting, and in my hand is the banner of praise and I am not boasting, and there has been no Prophet since Adam or other than him, except that he is under my banner. And I am the first for whom the earth will split open, and I am not boasting.” He said: “The people will be frightened by three frights. So they will come to Adam saying: ‘You are our father Adam, so intercede for us with your Lord.’ So he says: ‘I committed a sin for which I was expelled to the earth, so go to Nuh.’ So they will come to Nuh and he will say: ‘I supplicated against the people of the earth, so they were destroyed. So go to Ibrahim.’ So they will go to Ibrahim, and he says: ‘I lied three times.'” Then the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “He did not lie except defending Allah’s religion.” “So go to Musa.’ So they will come to Musa, and he will say: ‘I took a life. So go to ‘Eisa. So they go to ‘Eisa and he says: ‘I was worshiped besides Allah. So go to Muhammad (ﷺ).'” He said: “So they will come to me, and I will go to them.” (One of the narrators) Ibn Ju’dan said: “Anas said: ‘It is as if I am looking at the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), and he is saying: “So I will take hold of a ring of a gate of Paradise to rattle it, and it will be said: ‘Who is there?’ It will be said: ‘Muhammad.’ They will open it for me, and welcome me saying, ‘Welcome.’ I will fall prostrate and Allah will inspire me with statements of gratitude and praise and it will be said to me: ‘Raise your head, ask and you shall be given, intercede, and your intercession shall be accepted, speak, and your saying shall be heard.’ And that is Al-Maqam Al-Mahmud about which Allah said: It may be that your Lord will raise you to Maqaman-Mahmud (17:79).” Sufyan said: “None of it is from Anas except this sentence: ‘I will take hold of a ring of a gate of Paradise to rattle it.'”(Jami’at Tirmidhi, Volume 5, Book 44, Hadith #3148)

The news of The Holy Prophet Muhammad(saw) being the seal of the prophets was around 18 years after the claim of Prophethood. There is nothing wrong with a claim being gradual, rather Allah reveals in this way. The Promised Messiah, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad(as) was called Isa and a prophet since Barahin-e-Ahmadiyya, however the Muslims at that time did not understand what a prophet was, and believed all prophets brought a law. Because of this, Ahmad(as) did not consider himself a real prophet, rather made an interpretation of it, of being like a prophet. After Allah made it clear to Ahmad(as) that you are a prophet and it was being revealed, as the rain pours, he then claimed prophethood in a subordinate sense. The gradual claim is normal for a prophet and this is the law of Allah.

Bait ul Fiqr at Qadian Like The Haram-e-Ka’aba?

The allegation which the non Ahmadi Muslims quote is that in Barahin-e-Ahmadiyya, on page 558, Ahmad(as) stated that the Bait Ul Fiqr at Qadian is like the Haram-e-Ka’aba. This is just another lie of the anti Ahmadis and nowhere did Ahmad(as) state this. Barahin-e-Ahmadiyya itself is of the 1880-1884 years and the Bait Ul Fiqr of Qadian came to be, much later. This itself exposes the lie of the Anti Ahmadi Muslims.

Prophets are Liars?

The false allegation which the non Ahmadi Muslims sadly quote is that Ahmad(as) stated that the Prophets are liars. It upsets me how the anti Ahmadis can make up such lies without fearing Allah. They try to quote that in Izala Auham pages 688-689 Ahmad(as) stated such, however it is clear that Ahmad(as) never said such a thing in either Izala Auham or any of his book.It is our belief that the Prophets are the most faithful and truthful and also free from sinning. Never would Ahmad(as) say such a thing. The passage of Izala Auham which the anti Ahmadis try to quote is a passage where Ahmad(as) is simply stating that Prophets and Apostles of Allah can also make errors in the comprehension of the true purport of Divine will revealed to them. He did not ever suggest that they are liars or anything in that sense.

Prophets have indeed misunderstood the revelations which were revealed to them. The Qur’an itself shows us that Prophets have misunderstood their revelations. For example, Allah states in regards to the Prophet Noah(as) misunderstanding what was revealed upon him in regards to his progeny:

And Noah cried unto his Lord and said: ‘My Lord, verily, my son is of my family, and surely, Thy promise is true, and Thou art the Most Just of judges.’He said: ‘O Noah, he is surely not of thy family; he is indeed a man of unrighteous conduct. So ask not of Me that of which thou hast no knowledge. I advise thee lest thou become one of the ignorant.’(Chapter 11, Verses 46-47)

This is all Ahmad(as) stated. We also have an incident of the Holy Prophet Muhammad(saw) misunderstanding a revelation as well. It is stated:

Narrated Abu Musa:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “I saw in a dream that I was migrating from Mecca to a land where there were date palm trees. I thought that it might be the land of Al-Yamama or Hajar, but behold, it turned out to be Yathrib (i.e. Medina). And I saw cows (being slaughtered) there, but the reward given by Allah is better (than worldly benefits). Behold, those cows proved to symbolize the believers (who were killed) on the Day (of the battle) of Uhud, and the good (which I saw in the dream) was the good and the reward and the truth which Allah bestowed upon us after the Badr battle. (or the Battle of Uhud) and that was the victory bestowed by Allah in the Battle of Khaibar and the conquest of Mecca)(Sahih Bukhari, Volume 9, Book 87, Hadtih #159)

Now will the non Ahmadi Muslims start to accuse the Holy Prophet(saw) and Hazrat Noah (as) as well?

Denying the Descent of Gabriel?

The allegation which the non Ahmadi Muslims try to state is that Ahmad(as) denied the coming of Gabriel on earth which is just another misrepresentation of the words of Ahmad(as) as we know Gabriel descends upon the ones who Allah blesses with divine revelation. Ahmad(as) stated:

‘Though he descends upon every person who is honoured with Divine revelation, the circle of the effect of his descent assumes small or great proportions according to different capacities.”(Tauzeeh Maram, Pages 67-68, Ruhani Khazain, Volume 3, Page 84)

Ahmad(as) did indeed believe in the descent of angels, although not in the manner that the ignorant Muslims of today. In fact Gabriel descended on him the same way it descended on Muhammad(saw) and the other prophets of Allah and other recipients of divine revelation.

Angels are the Names of Heavenly Bodies and Spirits of Stars?

The allegation raised is that apparently Ahmad(as) said that the angels are the names of heavenly bodies and spirits of stars and whatever happens, occurs under the influence of the stars. In reality what Ahmad(as) stated was :

‘It appears clearly from certain indications in the Qur’an that some pure beings that are called angels have a distinct relationship with heavenly bodies. Some of them drive the wind and some cause rain to descend and some others cause other influences to descend upon the earth. There is no doubt that those creation would be related to the bright and illuminated stars that are in heaven, but this relationship that exists between them should not be deemed to be the relationship that exists between every animate and its soul. Those pure spirits have, on account of the brightness and light they possess, spiritually an indeterminate relationship with the bright stars which is so strong that, if it were supposed that those pure spirits had departed from those stars, the faculties of the later would be upset. It is through the hidden power of those spirits that the stars carry out their functions. It might be said that as God Almighty is, as it were, the life of the universe, those illumined spirits are, as it were, the life of the planets and the stars and by their departure the condition of the planets and the stars is bound to be disrupted” (Tauzeeh Maram, Pages 37-38, Ruhani Khazain Volume 2, Page 70)

The passage itself makes it clear that Ahmad(as) has explained that the angels are the driving force behind the heavenly bodies and these heavenly bodies include the stars. He had the opinion that if the angels had to withdraw their support of the stars, the faculties of the stars would be disrupted as they are the life of the planets and it is through the hidden powers which Allah has blessed the angels which, that the stars are able to fulfill their functions. No where did Ahmad(as) state that angels are the names of heavenly bodies. This is just another lie of the anti Ahmadi Muslims.

Prayers Against Opponents

The foolish allegation of the non Ahmadi Muslims is that a prophet does not do mubahalas nor wish death upon people. This statement itself shows that the non Ahmadi Muslims do not have much knowledge in regards to the Qur’an. The Prophets in the past have made much harsher prophecies and asked for much harsher punishments for the wrongdoers as well. Firstly one has to understand that the greatest Prophet, Muhammad(saw) himself was going to do a mubahalah with the Christians, which they were too afraid to accept. The Qur’an itself has a verse which was revealed during the time of this incident.

Allah the Almighty states:

Now whoso disputes with thee concerning him, after what has come to thee of knowledge, say to him, ‘Come, let us call our sons and your sons, and our women and your women, and our people and your people; then let us pray fervently and invoke the curse of Allah on those who lie.’(Chapter 3 Verse 62)

Prayer duels are not something new, rather many prophets have challenged the opponents to show them the truth.

There are much harsher punishments asked by previous prophets and many statements in the Qur’an make this clear. Allah states:

We sent a storm of stones upon them except the family of Lot, whom We delivered by early dawn,As a favour from Us. Thus do We reward him who is grateful.(Chapter 54 Verses 35-36)

Allah further States:

And Moses said, ‘Our Lord, Thou hast bestowed upon Pharaoh and his chiefs embellishment and wealth in the present life, with the result, our Lord, that they are leading men astray from Thy path. Our Lord! destroy their riches and attack their hearts — and they are not going to believe until they see the grievous punishment.’He said, ‘Your prayer is accepted. So be ye twain steadfast, and follow not the path of those who know not.’(Chapter 10 Verses 89-90)

Here Moses(as) has asked Allah to destroy the people and attack their hearts as well. Can you compare this to what Ahmad(as) has said? There is absolutely nothing wrong with nor the statement of Allah, Ahmad(as) or Moses(as). Nor is there any fault in Muhammad(saw)’s mubahalah interaction with the Christians. Allah has further Stated:

And Noah said, ‘My Lord, leave not in the land a single one of the disbelievers;‘For, if Thou dost leave them, they will only lead astray Thy servants and will not give birth but to a sinner and a disbeliever.(Chapter 71 Verses 27-28)

These Quranic ayahs make it clear that Ahmad(as) was indeed a prophet of peace just as Muhammad(saw) was. There is nothing wrong with his statements if looked at in context. Nor are there any faults in the statements of Moses(as) or Noah(as) or any other prophet.

Barahin-e-Ahmadiyya, The Book Of God?

The Anti Ahmadis try to quote page 533 of Izala Auham and state that Ahmad(as) wrote here that Barahin-e-Ahmadiyya is the Book of God. There is no such statement of Ahmad(as) on this page. Barahin-e-Ahmadiyya in its entirety was one of the greatest services to Islam but one has to remember that the first parts of it were written way before Ahmad(as) was told about the death of Isa(as) but after Allah had revealed the truth in regards to Isa(as) and his death from the Qur’an and Ahadith, Ahmad(as) corrected himself.

Khatamul Aulad?

The non Ahmadis bring up another allegation that Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad(as) has used the word khatam to mean last but its sad that they have misunderstood the true meaning of what Ahmad(as) has said. They treat this reference as they treat the Qur’an and Ahadith wherever khataman nabiyeen is mentioned. Ahmad(as) has used the term Khatamul Aulad to infer finality in the same way we interpret khataman nabiyeen. Neither mean finality in all aspects. Secondly one has to remember that this statement is from a book written in Urdu while we are discussing the meaning of Khatam through the language of Arabic, rather than Urdu. This statement does not have the vowels written so its possible that Ahmad(as) in reality wrote Khatim, rather than Khatam. We are not completely aware. Another point to keep in mind is that this was stated before the claim of prophethood by Ahmad (as) in its entirety and before Allah explained to him the true meanings of Khataman nabiyyin.

Ahmad(as) states:

“Thirdly, I am also similar to Adam in that Adam was born as a twin and I was also born as a twin. First a girl was born and I was born thereafter; and in this manner I was Khatamul-Walad for my father. No child was born after me.”(Brahin-e-Ahmadiyya Ruhani Khazain Volume 21. Page 113)

He further states:

“A girl was born with me whose name was Jannat. First she was born and then I was delivered. After me there was no son or daughter born to my parents and I was Khatamul-Aulad for them.”(Taryaqul Qulub, Ruhani Khazain Volume 15, Page 479)

The non Ahmadis claim that Ahmad(as) uses both khatamul Walad and Aulad to mean the last of the children and state that we cannot use the argument of it referring to rank.

Now none of these references contradict our belief on what khatme nabuwat means to begin with. Khatam can be used as last for us and it will still not affect our belief in any way. We agree that the Promised Messiah(as) is the last of the children in the same way the Holy Prophet(saw) is the last of the prophets. When Ahmad(as) states that he is khatamul Aulad and that no child was born after him, it does not refer to last in the way the non Ahmadis take it to be. Did Promised Messiah(as) not have offspring? In fact he had children and many of them became amazing defenders of Islam just as he was. In the same way after the Holy Prophet(saw) died no independent prophet was born and he was the last in the chain of law bearing prophets. In the same way Ahmad(as) was khatamul Aulad to his parents. No children were born to the parents of Ahmad(as) but their physical offspring continued through Ahmad(as). Ahmad(as) was revealed to by Allah :

The genealogical chain of your forefathers would be cut off, and from now on, the chain of descendants will be counted from you.”(Tadhkirah)

In the terms khatamul Walad and Khatamul Aulad, the superiority of rank is indeed mentioned. The reason is that he was the only one who continued the progeny of his parents and no one else was able to because of Allah’s plan.

“No child was born after me” and “there was no son or daughter born to my parents” have also been raised as allegations. The true meaning of these statements is that Ahmad(as) was last in the line of siblings and his birth brought the end to the birth of any other siblings and no more children were born to the parents of Ahmad(as). The progeny however continued through the seed of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad(as) which is why he was khatamul Aulad meaning the best of the children. This is the exact same way we understand the finality of Muhammad(saw). His advent also brought an end to all the prophets and the only prophethood that continued is the prophethood through his own spirituality and one that is attainable only by following him completely.

Ahmad(as) states:

“If you succeed in this your status will be raised beyond people’s imagination, and God shall make you heir to His Prophets and Messengers(as), which means that all their knowledge, wisdom and blessings, which had disappeared into obscurity and oblivion, will be granted afresh to you, and you will reach the highest level of sainthood, and none after you shall be able to rise higher.”(Blessings of Prayer, Footnote on page 26)

Islam, A Dead Religion?

The allegation against Mirza Ghulam Ahmad(as) is that he stated that if the door of revelation is closed in a religion, that religion is a satanic religion. There is nothing wrong with this. How can we believe in a religion where our Creator has Said He speaks but does not ? That firstly suggests a contradiction in the Qur’an from the non Ahmadi Muslim. The Qur’an and Prophet Muhammad(saw) are both clear that Our Creator will indeed Speak forever as this is His trait and He is alive as He was When the earth was created.

Qur’an is clear that revelation has not ended.

Allah has made it clear in Qur’an and Ahadith that revelation is continued and will continue till Qiyamah. The Qur’an states:

And the people of Moses made, in his absence, out of their ornaments a calf — a lifeless body producing a lowing sound. Did they not see that it spoke not to them, nor guided them to any way? They took it for worship and they were transgressors.(Chapter 7 Verse 149)
Again Allah states:

He sends down the angels with revelation by His command on whomsoever of His servants He pleases saying, ‘Warn people that there is no God but I, so take Me alone for your Protector.’(Chapter 16 Verse 3)

Allah also states:

As for those who say, ‘Our Lord is Allah,’ and then remain steadfast, the angels descend on them, saying: ‘Fear ye not, nor grieve; and rejoice in the Garden that you were promised We are your friends in this life and in the Hereafter. Therein you will have all that your souls will desire, and therein you will have all that you will ask for —(Chapter 41 Verses 31-32)
Allah also states:

And it is not for a man that Allah should speak to him except by revelation or from behind a veil or by sending a messenger to reveal by His command what He pleases. Surely, He is High, Wise.(Chapter 42 Verse 52)

Apart from all of this all non Ahmadis believe that the Messiah(as) would be revealed to. Indeed if the latter day messiah is a prophet according to Allah, than of course he would be revealed to as sahih Muslim states:

“Allah would reveal to Jesus these words” sahih muslim 2937a so all of them themselves await the latter day messiah(as) to get revelation as well.

Ahmad(as) has written over 90 books defending Islam in a way no one else was able to. He was the greatest lover of Islam after the Holy Prophet Muhammad(Saw) and defended this religion of Allah from all attacks. He also proved that the reason it is the greatest religion is because only Our Creator still Speaks and Hears and will always.
